Performance Opportunities with AMSF

Full members of AMSF may attend and participate in the following series of student recitals for soloists and ensembles. Additional performance opportunities are offered by participation in Community Outreach performances.

Prelude Recitals

Prelude Recitals are designed as an introduction to performance. These recitals are held in private homes, and attendance is limited to participants. Members who wish to participate should contact the coordinator by telephone or email.

Intermezzo Recitals

Intermezzo Recitals are designed to provide performance opportunities to persons who have limited performance experience. These recitals are held in private homes, and attendance is limited to participants. Members who wish to participate should contact the coordinator by telephone or email. .

Cadenza Recitals

Cadenza recitals are held in private homes and are intended primarily for members of intermediate to advanced levels of skill and experience who favor an informal setting. Attendance is open to participants first and, space permitting, to additional audience. Members who wish to participate should contact the coordinator by telephone or email .

Encore Recitals

Encore recitals are held in various Washington area churches and recital halls. Participation is open to full members of the Forum and, for a $17 fee, any adult student of a WMTA teacher. Attendance is open and free to the public. Recitals are usually scheduled for 3:00 p.m., but participants and attendees should check the AMSF calendar or Events page for details of upcoming recitals.

Apply for a recital by submitting a complete request up to 10 days prior to the recital by email . A complete request includes the following elements: title of piece; opus no.; key; composer; performer's name, instrument and teacher; duration (generally limited to 10 minutes). Applications that are not complete and/or arrive within 10 days of a recital date will receive less priority than those that are complete and timely (particularly if space on a program is limited).

Opportunities to play works lasting longer than 10 minutes may occasionally be granted. This is at the discretion of the Encore Coordinator and will depend on the length of the recital program.

Salon Recitals

Salon recitals are oriented toward chamber groups and other ensembles. They are held in private homes and are intended for groups of all levels of skill and experience. Attendance is open to participants first and, space permitting, to additional audience. Performances are limited to 10 minutes, though it may be possible for performers to arrange for a longer performance with the coordinator. Soloists may also be permitted after preference is given to ensembles. Members who wish to participate should contact the coordinator by email or telephone.

Sonata Recitals

The sonata series provides a venue for the performance of single- and multiple-movement sonata works. The series is open to soloists and chamber groups, and to performers of beginning to advanced levels. Recitals are hosted in member homes and are limited to approximately 90 minutes in length. Guests are permitted at the discretion of the coordinator and host. Members who wish to participate should contact the coordinator by email or telephone.

Special Events

There are occasional performance opportunities at special events that AMSF hosts for members when professional musicians, instructors and other specialists share their knowledge on a wide variety of subjects of interest to performers and students of music.
